As of March 2009, Is Nuevo Progresso, Mexico still safe for U.S. Travellers?

Historically I've crossed the border in to Mexico at Progresso. It has always been clean, safe, and friendly to Americans. My wife and daughter plan on doing this by themselves this year (they did it last year without incident). I'm just trying to make sure it is still untouched by the recent violence in Mexico. Are there any specific warnings that I've overlooked for Progresso? Anyone have any recent experience (this year) with going there? thank you!
