Does anybody else think that theatrics take away from music?
First of all, I mean no disrespect against fans of this type of music, but I think that just because a band can put on a cool show doesn't mean that they're great musicians.Don't get me wrong, musicians like Dio, Pink Floyd, The Misfits, Iron Maiden, the Rolling Stones, Queen, Rush, Phish, and David Bowie are all quite theatrical and have REALLY great music. But I'm talking about the stuff like KISS, Poison, Lady Gaga, and Twisted Sister. Sure, the live performances are really something to watch, but I honestly believe that people are more focused on the theatrics and pyrotechnics than the music. I learned that 5 years ago, when I was 10. I used to love stuff like KISS, until I realized it was the theatrics I liked. I took the time and listened to some of the music, and I realized that it was really nothing special. I mean, it was ok, but I mean compared to bands like Led Zeppelin, it's really pretty generic. I honestly think that NOT ALL people, but a lot of them go to the concerts just because they want to see the theatrics and don't care about the music as much. I mean, listen to some of the other great rock artists like Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Stroke 9, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Each of them have written some of the greatest songs in the world, and really, none of them were that theatrical.
