How do I go about recording a Motown Sound?

I have a few ideas to achieve that dirty sound. I have decided to Under mic the drum set, just the kick and snare. Then 8 feet away i will point a SE 5600(tube) at the center of the snare. I figured I would place bist and guitarist in the same room, well in front of the drummer, and gobo them for isolation. This will allow some bleed which would be advantageous for the style? Sm58s for rooms, sm7 on kick sm57 on snare.
